What kind of doctor should I look into?

For the past few years I've wanted to be a doctor. I still have a few years to decide, but I'd like some opinions because this often comes up and bugs me. haha. I've always wanted to be a doctor that got to talk to their patients and know what was really going on. I wanted to be an E.R. doctor for a while, but I'm not sure. I've also wanted to be a specialist of some sort like a cardiac specialist. Only because it pays wells. Can someone tell me some fields I'd enjoy and compare and contrast or whatever. Can you please tell me stuff like what they do and how they pay in California. Thanks!
