Unfortunately, this is a political question. I wish it weren't. Is Christianity a barbaric religion?

Why is this a political question? One only needs to look at the current status of the political debates on abortion, gay marriage, stem cell research or education to see the heavy hand of the religious right. Many of the arguments made on the con side of all these issues are taken from the Bible (Old and New Testaments). These arguments have inspired me to take a closer look at the Bible and I have found, to my dismay, that the conservative Christians are right. Jesus commanded his followers to respect and follow the laws in the Old Testament to the letter, which means unfortunately that not only should abortion and ity be illegal with a death penalty for those found guilty, but all people of any other faith, heretics, adulterers, thieves, slaves (we should have them btw), witches and sorcerers, kids who talk back and many others should be stoned to death. If you are a devout Christian are these the kind of laws we should have on the books?
